Ski Juwel is an overlooked ski area that spreads across the Alpbachtal og Wildschönau valleys. It’s a typical family resort, with wide runs and many cozy cottages and restaurants, but the area also offers a a safe off-piste terrain between the prepared slopes. We’re staying just 250 m from the lift at Hotel Platzl, which is a family owned and operated hotel with a good kitchen and a cozy restaurant where we’ll enjoy breakfast and dinner together. We’ve booked 23 rooms for 1-4 people – 50 people in total.

The trip is designed primarily for Microsoft employees and their families with kids from 9 years and up (2013). In addition to a fantastic experience on skiis, we’re also offering the opportunity to have fun together across age groups and families and make new friends.

Note: Because the number of hotel rooms and flight tickets is limited and sign-up is first-come-first-served, we advise that you register quickly. Registration will close when all rooms tickets are taken, or at the latest on December 8

SKI area and town

We’ll stay in the town of Auffach, about 250 m from the Schatzbergbahn lift which takes us up to the ski area. Auffach is quiet and does not have much nightlife, but the hotels and ski area are high-quality. There are ski shops that offer rentals, sport stores, a supermarket, bank, and restaurants and cafes. The town is only about 15 km from Wörgl and the highway, so getting there by car is easy.

Ski Juwel is a favorite for the locals and spans across the Alpbachtal and Wildschönau valleys. Its 46 lifts and 109 km of slopes are comprised of 26 km blue, 54 km red, and 29 km black. It goes up to 2,025 m and because the runs are primarily facing east and north it fosters good spring snow conditions even in late March.

Room and board

Hotel Platzl is the definition of a cozy, family-owned Austrian guest house. The entire family chips in and there is always a high level of service. The hotel is known for its tasty Austrian kitchen, which will provide us breakfast and dinner while we’re there. The rooms have been recently renovated and can welcome 1-4 people. Amenities include private bathroom (separated from sleeping area by a frosted glass door), a balcony, and a TV (single-occupant rooms do not have balconies). The hotel has a reception, and elevator, 2 restaurants, a bar, a TV room and a small library. Additionally, there is a wellness facility that offers a sauna, steam room, and a relaxation area, which is open daily from 15.00 – 19.00. Note that the wellness area requires that children under the age of 15 are accompanied by adults. There is free wi-fi throughout the hotel. There is a ski and boot room in the basement that is equipped with boot warmers, and there’s free parking at the hotel.

From Copenhagen it’s roughly 1100 km to Wildschönau. Notice that winter tires are mandatory, you are obligated to bring snow chains and traffic vests and the highway fee in Austria (”Vignette -ticket”) costs kr. 150,- (available at gas stations in southern Germany).

Upon arrival to Munich airport a transfer bus will drive us to the hotel in Auffach (approximately 2t. 15 min. transfer).

Instruction and activities

9 hours of alpine ski instruction

High-quality ski instruction with some of the club’s best ski instructors. The head of the ski school creates a program so that everyone receives instruction at the same time for three hours each day (on Thursday afternoon, Friday and Saturday mornings). The teams are formed based on ability, from beginners to experienced, so that everyone get’s the most out of the instruction. Unfortunately, there is no instruction for snowboarders.

When the days of skiing are over there’s of course “After-skiing” with plenty of room for the kids and adults to hang out together, enjoy a beverage and perhaps play a game that they’ve brought along on the trip.

A membership of Skiclub Hareskoven and payment of the membership fee for 2022/2023 is a prerequisite for being able to register for and participate in the ski trip. Memberships: Adult 450 dkk, child 250 dkk.  Family membership 895 dkk

TARVEL INSURENCE

Members of Skiklubben Hareskov are covered by Idrættens rejseforsikring, which is taken out with the insurance company Tryg through DIF and DGI.

The travel insurance gives you worldwide coverage for trips abroad and covers illness and injury and includes travel liability-, life-, home travel- and trip cancellation insurances as well. For more detailed information about the travel insurance click here.

It is not our experience that additional coverage is necessary. Nevertheless, we do encourage our members to read the terms and make their own judgment.

CHECK-IN AND CHECK OUT

Check-in opens at 3:30 p.m for guest arriving in own car. Early luggage drop-off is possible if you arrive prior to the check-in time. Departure: Check-out must be made by 10:00 a.m. on the day of departure. You will be able to store your luggage at the hotel after check-out as well as having a bath when collecting your luggage.
